The first step towards discovery of your own personal sense of right and wrong—or ethics—is to think about ethical dilemmas you’ve faced in your life and how you responded to them. An ethical dilemma is a personal or work situation that requires you to make a decision based on who you want to be as a person and what you believe are appropriate ways to act to be that person. Ethical dilemmas can make you feel uncomfortable because they force you to make a decision that may violate a personal belief and/or create unpleasant consequences, such as losing a friend.

Let’s look at two historic ethical dilemmas, one faced by an individual and one by a major corporation. You may already have the benefit of knowing the consequences of their actions. Would you have taken the same action?
